In addition to the combobox which may be used to select and display a range of Unicode characters, this tool has two buttons:

Insert special character by name

Displays a dialog box letting the user select and insert at caret position a character specified using its entity name (e.g. mdash).

Note that the command invoked by this button, insertCharByName in XMLmind XML Editor - Commands (keyboard shortcut Esc n) does not insert a reference to a character entity (e.g. —); it inserts a character (e.g. U+2024). It must be considered as a handy alternative to using the Characters tool.

Change font

Displays the following menu:

Change Font

Change the font used by the Characters tool. This menu item displays a dialog box letting the user choose any font present on your system. The chosen font is automatically saved as a user preference.

Revert to Default Font

Revert to the font used by default by the Character tool (which is generally Serif-14).

[11] Note that this tool honors the Overwrite Mode (OVR) when this mode has been turned on.
