1. Why read this document?

This document describes the support of DocBook 5.1+ assemblies in XMLmind XML Editor. It does not deal with DocBook 5.1+ elements which are not related to the assembly element, that is, book, chapter, section, topic, etc. How to create and edit these elements in XMLmind XML Editor is documented in another document: XMLmind XML Editor - DocBook Support. The content of this other document applies to DocBook version 4+ and 5+.

When you'll use Assembly → Check Assembly or Assembly → Convert Document, you'll implicitly invoke XMLmind Assembly Processor. XMLmind Assembly Processor is a free, open source, Java™ software component which processes a DocBook `assembly` and all the referenced topics in order to create the equivalent “flat”, monolithic, document (e.g. a DocBook book). The limitations and implementation specificities of this assembly processor are documented in "XMLmind Assembly Processor Manual, Limitations and implementation specificities".
