Qizx/open was the first version of Qizx and has been available as an open-source product since 2003.

Qizx/open fully implements the XML Query language, but in terms of XML data access its is less powerful than the full Qizx: basically Qizx/open has no persistent store and no indexing capabilities, therefore it must always parse XML documents into memory before querying and processing.

Yet Qizx/open can be quite fast for querying on medium size XML collections as shown in this benchmark.

Qizx/open should not be regarded as a native XML database engine, but simply as an XML Query interpreter [See the product comparison table].

Qizx/open is licensed under the Mozilla Public License. It is one of the two main components of Qizx, therefore maintained in sync with Qizx.
